Assistance League of Atlanta is a non-profit, nonsectarian, nonpolitical volunteer community service organization. Our volunteer members support on-going philanthropic programs that are developed, implemented and funded for the specific needs of men, women and children in Atlanta communities. Six community service programs are operated, funded and run entirely by 100%volunteer efforts.
Operation School Bell® is the only national service program of Assistance League. County social workers, school nurses, teachers and other school personnel identify children in need. Our members strive to meet those needs. In the Atlanta Chapter, we provide new clothing and school uniforms for elementary children through various means. The number of recipients, and the ways we distribute new clothing increase as the scope of Operation School Bell® continues to grow.
Links to Education is a scholarship program adopted by the Atlanta Chapter in 2003. It is our newest philanthropic program.
New Beginnings is a community service program that provides help and support to victims of rape and abuse, as well as homeless women and children. Members of the New Beginnings Committee purchase and deliver new clothing and personal care items. Sometimes special requests and household items are added to deliveries made to the short-term care facilities.
Our Wee Help Committee members provide and deliver layettes to Atlanta area hospitals. Our members select, purchase, unpack, and inventory new items for infants. These new items, such as diapers, receiving blankets, gowns, bottles, socks and sleepers are assembled and placed into our layette packages. The packages are delivered by volunteer members to Atlanta area hospitals.
AL Bears find their way into the arms of children in traumatic situations to provide comfort and calm the youngsters. Assistance League of Atlanta's Bears for Children Committee deliver cuddly teddy bears to numerous emergency agencies and child health care centers.
Members of the Shepherd Center Patient Support Committee deliver pants, shorts, t-shirts and socks suitable for physical therapy to Shepherd Center Hospital.
Assistance League members own and operate Attic Treasures. Attic Treasures is more than just a thrift shop. Attic Treasures provides the chapter with a substantial portion of the funding required to support the six on-going community service programs.
Members handle every aspect of this business. Members accept clothing and household items; they sort, clean, hang, tag, and check every single item that reaches the sales floor.
Come shop with Assistance League of Atlanta. Your dollars will go a long way at our thrift shop. And, you will be supporting your community while you shop.
Attic Treasures is open from 10 - 4 Tuesday through Saturday with extended hours on Thursdays until 7:00pm. Our thrift shop is located at 3534 Broad Street, Chamblee, Georgia.
